Saturday Snapshots #8
Saturday, January 12, 2013

Glad to say that I've been keeping up with my photography practice! Other than borrowing my dad's macro lens, I've also been using my camera phone a lot (as evidenced by the above photos). Ever since I got my new phone, I started downloading all kinds of camera and photography apps for it.
Although it really isn't the same as using a DSLR, the rules are rather the same for composition, framing and the like. You still get to practice with it, plus it's a bit more practical than having to bring a bulky camera around all the time, which I cannot do. It also gives you a different perspective and lets you get more spontaneous shots.
Funny thing, I've started to appreciate the post processing part of photography even more after all these app experiments. I appreciate the filters, but I'm also learning to better control sharpness, exposures, curves and saturation. Trying to exercise the technical as well.

By the way, you can now follow me on Instagram: @danecruz! :)

Happy New Year!
Tuesday, January 1, 2013

Happy New Year everyone! :) 2012, I believe, was quite a wonderful year for me. So many opportunities, experiences, challenges, and more came into my life, and all have taught me a lot of things.

But, this post isn't really about me reminiscing about the past year. I'm saving that for the next post. This one is all about photos. :)) So yeah, this is one photo-heavy post.

May you all have a beautiful and wonderful start to 2013!

Borrowed my dad's 60mm f2.8 macro lens, since my kit lens is dying and I was up for some practice. I originally intended to borrow a 50mm, but dad recommended that I try this one out. I'm not complaining since I really like it. Although I do plan on getting my own 50mm lens sometime soon. :)

On another note; I just really hate how every time I upload photos, they end up posting in a less than satisfying quality. I have to figure out a solution to this soon.

Free drinks!
My brother practicing before their set

These were taken last September 1 at 7th High. My brother's band, Meditate, had a gig at the event Rockin' High @ 7th High, organized by 99.5 RT. I just tagged along. I was supposed to be the photographer, but I ended up doing a crappy job by my own standards. I was too engrossed with the music, and I was feeling the VIP Lounge just a little bit too much. Perks of being with the band.
Still regretting the fact that I didn't have a picture taken with She's Only Sixteen who also played that night. Oh well.

it's only just begun...
Celine and I during a Smart Communications lecture @UP.        With Jen, taking photos & tweeting during SocSci

Last Saturday in Bon Appetea and also had a spontaneous foodtrip with Shinji and Pauline!

With Jeck and Myka on a shuttle ride home together. :)

Last Wednesday. After classes got suspended, I went to MOA with my brother, Myka, and her blockmate, Gertie. Afterwards, I met up with Pam and Shinji and we had a Bon Appetea date. :)
Jak's doodles on the Bon App wall. It's really hard to miss.
French macarons!
These red velvet cupcakes were absolutely delicious! Thanks to Shinji for treating us to some of these. :)
So, this is what I've been up to lately, more or less. More on the less side though. I've been more busy with school related stuff than I make it obvious. We have upcoming reports, running assignments, long tests, exams and quizzes to study for, events to take note of, org responsibilities, and more. Of course, you can add weather related problems to the stress I'm experiencing, as the weather has been quite stormy lately. But the upside of that is it raises the chances of class suspensions. You would not want to commute in Manila in rainy weather at all.

Right now, I should be studying for a long test on History this coming Monday, plus I should be working on a write up as part of my application for my org's newspaper. I also have other org work that I have to pass on Monday. But here I am, blogging away, turning away from my responsibilities. What can I say, old habits just really die hard...

P.S. First photo is from Celine, the second one is from Jen, and the fourth one is from Pauline. The rest are mine. :)

Saturday Snapshots #4: Singin' in the Rain
Saturday, July 21, 2012
I love the rain, I honestly do. Even if most people find it gloomy, I find it soothing.
Although I wasn't necessarily singing in the rain when I had to endure walking through flooded streets along Taft, Padre Faura, and Pedro Gil (on different occasions though).

The first time it happened, my uncle picked me up from school (although we were still commuting). He brought my slippers, so I was able to spare my sneakers the trauma. Although I know walking through the flood was disgusting, it was better than destroying my shoes(shoe lover, you can't blame me). The flood I walked in was kind of ok, since it wasn't from the first downpour (Which would have obviously dislodged all the filth in Manila) Still, dirty and disgusting business. I wasn't that annoyed though, in fact, I found it funny. I experienced walking the the flood for the first time! Haha, experience is experience.

Now, these photos were from the day that I had to walk through the flood in Manila for the second time. I believe this was last Friday. My favorite pair of shoes drowned fully and I was terribly pissed. How could I not be, when earlier it was incredibly bright and hot, and then all of a sudden, the storm came in?
My brother and I caught a bus by 7:30pm (there were barely any vehicles passing in the southbound lane). Thankfully it was empty and u-turned in front us.
When I had calmed down and got bored, I brought out my camera from my bag and started taking pictures of the rain and the flood.

I was on the verge of being very pessimistic then, but by the end of the day I thought to myself "What would I gain by being pessimistic? What do I gain by complaining?" Of course, the answer is nothing, except bad thoughts and more complaints. Since I always try to be optimistic nowadays (one of the better changes I've gone through) I decided to just call it another experience. Plus, it's another anecdote I can share. :))

"Time is the fire in which we burn."
Saturday, July 14, 2012
I have no idea why, but I just seem to do wacky faces impulsively. :P

Time just seems to fly very quickly. I didn't realize we'd grow up so fast. Or maybe I was just too busy having fun everyday to care.

Last July 5, Thursday, was my best friend Myka's birthday. She didn't have anything special planned for her special day, but that didn't really hinder any of us from having a little bit of fun.
On the day of her birthday, Myka and I were to meet at her school, where I would pick her up. she intentionally cut her last class so we could see each other. Unfortunately, I picked her up a bit late since I had an org related event to attend. But anyway, when I got there, we decided to hang around the University Mall for a while before catching a shuttle home together.

The last four photos were taken during last Saturday's JZone event, which I attended for the first time. It was mostly out of curiosity than anything else, and I'll blog about it tomorrow or next week. Stay tuned!
